What is VidAngel and how does it work?

VidAngel links with your existing streaming subscriptions and adds a layer of customizable filters. You choose what you want to be muted and/or skipped—automatically—and we take care of it from there. 

To use VidAngel, you'll need: 

• Active subscriptions to supported streaming services (like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, etc.).
• To link those services to your VidAngel account—this is what allows VidAngel to access your content.
• To watch through the VidAngel app or website (not directly on the streaming service) for the filters to apply.

Think of VidAngel as a fancy pre-programmed remote that gives you control—but it only works when you're watching with us.

VidAngel works with select titles from these platforms:

• Apple TV streaming
• Netflix
• Peacock
• Paramount+
• Amazon Prime Video (rent/buy and subscription titles)
• Select Amazon Add-on Channels:
  • AMC+
  • BritBox
  • Hallmark+
  • MGM+
  • Paramount+
  • PBS Masterpiece
  • STARZ 

Not every show or movie on these platforms is available for filtering. We focus on popular releases from the major streaming platforms and work to add filters for them shortly after they’re released. Filters are created manually—so it can take time.

Additionally, under our agreement with Disney, Lucasfilm, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, and their subsidiaries, we are unable to filter their content. While we can’t filter everything, we’re excited to offer an extensive selection and add new titles weekly. We love hearing your requests for what to filter next! 

Included with your VidAngel subscription: We also offer a small library of licensed content, including family-friendly favorites from Angel Studios—like Freelancers, Homestead, Testament, Tuttle Twins, The Wingfeather Saga, select Dry Bar Comedy specials, and more.

Ad-based plans from these streaming services will not work with VidAngel on the Roku app or while casting.

You can use VidAngel on these streaming devices:

• Roku (excluding streaming plans with ads/commercials)
• Fire TV / Firestick (excluding Fire TV Stick 4K Select that runs on Vega OS)
• Apple TV (tvOS)
• Android TV (like Google Chromecast TV, TiVo, onn. box, Nvidia Shield, and more)
• iPhones and iPads (iOS)
• Android phones and tablets
• Computer (via vidangel.com)

You can also cast using AirPlay or Chromecast from our mobile app to compatible TVs.

VidAngel offers 3 types of Filters:

• Default Filters: Filters that apply to every new title you watch
• Show-Specific Filters: Detailed filter options for each movie or episode
• Locked Filters: Parental controls that require a passcode to remove
