Does VidAngel work with surround sound?
VidAngel currently outputs 2-channel stereo audio—so advanced audio formats like Dolby Digital and Dolby Atmos are not supported yet. For most setups this works great, but if you use external speakers connected to your TV or streaming device, a quick settings adjustment may be all you need.
External speakers not producing audio
If you have wireless or wired external speakers connected to your Apple TV, audio receiver, or soundbar and you're not hearing audio through them while watching VidAngel, here's why: your device may be expecting multi-channel audio (5.1, 7.1, etc.) and not routing 2-channel stereo to those speakers automatically.
The fix is usually simple: change your audio output settings to Auto or Stereo so your device detects and adapts to the number of channels VidAngel sends.
- Go to Settings > Video and Audio > Audio Format
- Turn on Change Format
- Select Stereo (or try Auto first — it detects the channel count automatically)
