How do ads work with VidAngel?
Ad-supported streaming services (also known as AVOD: Advertising-based Video on Demand) are becoming increasingly popular. These services typically offer either a reduced charge or no charge to view content interrupted by commercials.

Currently, VidAngel links to these ad-based streaming service plans:
- Netflix Standard with Ads

Advertisements will still be shown in VidAngel and cannot be skipped or filtered out. We respect the streaming services that provide content that can be filtered with VidAngel. Services that provide ad-supported movies and TV have business models that rely upon advertising revenue to make possible the free or discounted content. The business model is that advertisers pay, which subsidizes the consumer experience. Further, VidAngel provides all the usage data, which allows streaming services to get full credit for all ads served.
This means if you try to fast-forward or leave and then come back to a show, you will be shown all the previous ads at once.
There are no filter options for advertisements. VidAngel’s technology works with these services to include all ads and show them the same as when they are served to customers without VidAngel.
We know you use VidAngel because there are some things you don't want to see or hear; however, VidAngel’s technology works with these services to include all ads the same as when they are served to customers without VidAngel.
VidAngel has no say in the ads that are shown. But we're all about helping you enjoy your viewing experience, so we found a few resources:
- You may contact the streaming services' support and see if you can manage your ad preferences:
- Share ad feedback with Netflix here: Report ad issues or share feedback.
- Choose to upgrade your streaming service plan(s) to avoid ads altogether.
Roku
Roku has some specific requirements when it comes to ad-based streaming services that we can’t fulfill as an add-on service. This means that streaming service plans with ads won’t work on VidAngel’s Roku app.
Casting
Currently, VidAngel doesn’t support casting for content with ads. This means that streaming service plans with ads won’t work on VidAngel while casting.
| WARNING: Even with an ad-free plan, some titles might not work with casting due to pre-roll ads. These are short promotions or logos that play before the video (common with Paramount+ Originals and some AMC+ titles). Unfortunately, VidAngel currently can’t cast content with pre-roll ads, even if the plan is ad-free. They seem harmless, but they’re like a tiny splinter in VidAngel’s perfect setup. |
Upgrade to ad-free
If you upgrade your subscriptions to ad-free plans, you should be able to watch on the Roku app or while casting (with limitations)!
Rent/Buy on Amazon Video
If a title is also available via Amazon Video rent/buy, then you can rent/buy that title to watch it without ads on the VidAngel Roku app or while casting.
