What are credits, and how do I check my credit balance?
Credits are a form of account balance that automatically applies to your VidAngel subscription before your payment method is charged. Think of them as store credit that lives in your account—VidAngel automatically uses them to cover your subscription costs.
What are credits?
Credits are account funds that VidAngel applies automatically toward your monthly or annual subscription charges. When you have credits, your payment method isn't charged until those credits are used up.
The basics
Credits work like store credit or a prepaid balance. Once added to your account, they sit there waiting to be used. Every billing cycle, VidAngel automatically deducts your subscription cost from your credit balance first. Only when your credits can't fully cover the charge does your payment method get billed for the remaining amount.
In practice
Let's say you have $15 in credits and your subscription costs $9.99/month:
- Month 1: We use $9.99 from your credits. Your card isn't charged. Remaining balance: $5.01
- Month 2: We use the remaining $5.01 from your credits and charge your card $4.98 to cover the rest.
This happens automatically—you don't need to activate or apply credits manually.
How to check your credit balance
You can view your credit balance in your Account Settings on the VidAngel website (not in the apps).
- Go to www.vidangel.com/account
- Or click "Profile" (or your name) in the top-right corner
- Select "Account"
- Scroll down to the Account & Billing section
- Your credit balance will be displayed
How credits are applied
Credits work behind the scenes to reduce your out-of-pocket costs. Here's what you need to know:
- Credits are used automatically every billing cycle
- Credits are always used first before charging your payment method
- Partial credit balances carry over to the next billing cycle
- You don't need to activate or redeem credits—they just work
Common sources of credits
Credits can come from several places:
-
Customer Support resolutions
When we need to make things right—whether due to billing errors, technical issues, or service disruptions—we often add credits to your account. -
Promotional offers
Occasionally, we run special promotions that include account credits as part of the offer. -
Gift cards
When you redeem a VidAngel gift card, the balance is added to your account as credits. -
Goodwill gestures
Sometimes we add credits as a thank-you to especially engaged customers or to help resolve frustrating situations. -
Legacy credits
If you have credits from our old buy/sellback model, those still work the same way. Learn more: Old Model Credits
Important limitations
Apple, Google Play, and Roku subscriptions cannot use credits
If you subscribed through Apple, Google Play, or Roku, we don't have access to manage those subscriptions—they're controlled entirely by Apple, Google, or Roku. This means:
- Credits added to your VidAngel account won't apply to Apple, Google Play, or Roku subscription charges
- To use credits, you'll need to cancel your Apple/Google Play/Roku subscription and start a new subscription on our website
Need help switching? Contact Support and we'll walk you through it.
Credits are non-refundable
Credits cannot be cashed out or converted to money. They can only be used toward VidAngel subscription charges.
Credits do not expire
Your credit balance remains on your account indefinitely until used—no expiration dates to worry about!
