Why does VidAngel show a different rating than what I see on Netflix/Amazon/other platforms?
VidAngel pulls content ratings from multiple sources to help you make informed viewing choices. Sometimes you might notice our ratings differ from what appears on streaming platforms—here's why that happens and how we work to keep our information accurate.
The simple version
VidAngel aggregates content ratings from various sources to provide you with rating information. Occasionally, our system may display a rating that differs from what you see on the streaming platform due to platform-specific ratings, episode-by-episode variations, or outdated information. We're constantly working to improve accuracy.
How it works
Multiple rating sources
VidAngel uses multiple sources to compile content information, including ratings. This approach helps us provide comprehensive information, but it can sometimes lead to discrepancies when:
- Different platforms assign different ratings to the same content
- Rating information changes over time and hasn't updated in all systems yet
- Our system pulls from a source that has incorrect or outdated information
TV shows are especially tricky
TV series present unique challenges because individual episodes can have different ratings. A show might be rated TV-14 overall, but specific episodes could be TV-MA. When you see conflicting ratings, it's often because:
- Different episodes have different ratings
- The streaming platform displays one episode's rating, while VidAngel displays the series overall rating
- Platforms can update episode ratings after initial release
Key points to remember
- We use multiple sources to provide accurate rating information
- Different streaming platforms may assign different ratings to the same content
- TV shows can have different ratings for each episode
- If you notice a rating that seems incorrect, we want to know about it
We're always improving
We take rating accuracy seriously and appreciate when users point out discrepancies. Our team reviews all reported issues and works to keep our information as up-to-date as possible.
If you notice a rating that doesn't look right, please contact us with the title name and the issue you're seeing.
