What if the filters I want aren't available?
VidAngel strives to help you provide good entertainment for your home. We know that may mean something different for everyone—which is why we filter actions, not people. We don't create filters for race, skin color, religion, or sexual orientation. You can learn more about how we approach filtering in our Filter Guidelines and on our About page.
Why some filters don't exist
If a filter you're looking for isn't available, our Filter Guidelines can help you understand how we decide what to filter and why. Some things (like themes, worldviews, or story elements) are woven into a title in a way that can't be isolated and removed without dismantling the story itself. We focus on filtering specific, discrete moments of content: a word, a scene, an image.
Filters and movie flow
Our filters are built to preserve the story as much as possible. That means for some titles (especially those with higher ratings) we may not filter every instance of something if doing so would break the plot or remove key context.
For example, much of the plot would be lost if we removed all immodesty from a period drama like Bridgerton or Outlander. The wardrobe reflects the time period and can be considered immodest by some, but filtering every scene with an immodest dress would fundamentally change the story. Baywatch is another example: the movie is about people swimming and wearing swimwear. We created 198 immodesty filters, but the movie will still show people in swimsuits.
We'd rather give you honest, useful filters than filters that leave you with a very different (and very incomplete) story.
When a title might not be the right fit
We recommend that you carefully consider what titles you choose to watch based on the available filters and the content of the movie. There may be some titles that are not good for your home, even with VidAngel filters.
