Can't Install the VidAngel App on Fire TV
The VidAngel app is not in the Amazon store
The VidAngel Fire TV app is NOT in the Amazon store. Go here for the instructions on how to manually install it: Watch on Fire TV
If you go to the Amazon store and see a VidAngel TV app available, this is because you previously installed our old Beta app on your Fire TV. If you click on this non-functioning app you'll get the error: "App not Found: The app you are looking for could not be found."
Remember, the VidAngel app must be manually installed through the Downloader app.
You device is Too Old
Your Fire TV needs to be at least a 3rd generation with Fire OS 6 in order to manually install the VidAngel app. You can check your OS by going to Settings > My Fire TV > About > look for Software Version.
If that doesn't work, you can go to Amazon Support if you need more assistance identifying your Fire TV device.
Outside the United States
We cannot support our service outside of the United States, so you will not be able to find or install the app on your Fire TV if you are in another country.
Manually installed the app, but it doesn't appear
- Use your FireTV’s remote control voice search and clearly say, “VidAngel,” OR
- Go to Settings (the gear) > “Applications” > “Manage Installed Applications” > scroll to “VidAngel” > “Launch application”
You can try going to Settings (the gear) > Preferences > Sync Recent Content > Turn it "ON" to help it appear. You can also pin/move the VidAngel app to the front of your apps, so you'll see it on your Fire TV homepage:
PIN THE VIDANGEL APP
- Open your Fire TV home screen.
- Press and hold the Home button on your remote until the menu appears.
- Select "Apps".
This will take you to the "Your Apps & Channels Menu". - Highlight the VidAngel app icon (don’t select it).
- The VidAngel app may look like either of these:
- The VidAngel app may look like either of these:
- Click the Options button on your remote (3 lines).
- Select "Move to Front" from the drop-down menu.
Once you pin the icon to the front, it will appear as the first app on your home screen. The next time you follow this process for another app, that app will come in front of the previously pinned app. Therefore, if you pin the Netflix app first, and then VidAngel, the VidAngel app will appear first, and the Netflix icon will stand next to it.
App keeps trying to update
We discovered a bug in our code that has caused a small percentage of our Fire TV users (lucky you!) to run into problems when pushing an update. We believe we've fixed this, but if you're still getting stuck when trying to update or re-download the VidAngel app, or it's misbehaving in some way, here's how you can clear out any bad data that's getting in the way and get back to using VidAngel on your Fire TV.
- On your Fire TV, go to Settings (the gear)
- Select Applications
- Select Manage Installed Applications
- Scroll down and select VidAngel
- Select Force Stop
- Select Clear Data
- Uninstall VidAngel
- Scroll and select Downloader (that orange app you used to get the VidAngel app in the first place)
- Select Force Stop
- Select Clear Data
- Uninstall Downloader
- Reboot/Restart your Fire TV device
- Now you can Re-install the VidAngel app.
If you need help remembering that process, go here: Install the Fire TV app
Verification Issues
If your show won't verify/start on your Fire TV there are a couple of things to look into:
Old Beta App
You may still be using an old Beta version of the app. An easy to know if you have the old version is if you don't have PROFILE listed as an option on the top menu bar. The old version does NOT have this. If you have an old version you will need to uninstall that app and manually re-install our current Fire TV app. Here's how: Watch on Fire TV
Other Issues
If you're having errors or other verification issues, please check out the section: TROUBLE PLAYING SHOWS
Connection Issues
If your services won't show as connected or they keep getting disconnected, here are some things to look into:
Connect services on mobile or website
For Fire TV, you will not connect in the TV app itself but will sync your connection from our mobile app or the website: Connect streaming services on the Fire TV app
Other connection issues
If you're having trouble connecting or staying connected to a streaming service, please check out the section: TROUBLE CONNECTING TO STREAMING SERVICES
Playback Issues
Buffering or Freezing
Check out this article: Show is buffering
Check for updates on your Fire TV
You should be able to check for updates by going to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for System Updates. If that doesn't work, please contact Amazon Support for instructions.
Reboot your Fire TV
You might be surprised how often this actually works. You can restart the Fire TV by unplugging it or manually restarting it. You can restart it by going to Settings > My Fire TV > Restart. If that doesn't work, please contact Amazon Support for instructions.
It would probably also be a good idea to reboot your internet router/modem.
