How can I cast from the VidAngel web browser using Chromecast?
You can cast VidAngel from the Chrome web browser to a basic Chromecast dongle or smart TV with Chromecast built-in.
If you'd like to Chromecast VidAngel from our mobile app instead of the Chrome web browser, you can see how to do that here: Chromecast using the mobile app. Chromecasting is a different casting process than AirPlay. If you're trying to AirPlay to your TV device, you can check out: AirPlay using the mobile app
| WARNING: Please be aware that we cannot Chromecast titles that contain advertisements at this time. Some titles on Paramount+ and AMC+ include promotional pre-roll ads which cannot be cast even on ad-free plans. We will continue working to provide a better casting experience! |
Before you start
Before starting the casting process, you'll want to ensure your VidAngel account and devices are all ready to go.
NOTE: You can download Chrome for free: Download Chrome
- Sign up for a VidAngel subscription at www.vidangel.com
- Link streaming services in your VidAngel Account Settings: Link streaming services on the website
- Make sure you have the most updated version of Chrome: Update your VidAngel app
- Last, but certainly not least, ensure that your computer is on the same Wi-Fi as your Chromecast dongle or smart TV with Chromecast built-in: Check if TV and mobile are on the same Wi-Fi
You’re doing great! Now you're ready to Chromecast
Chromecast to your TV
- Find something you would like to watch, set your filters, and then start the movie or episode.
- Your show will start, and you can then click the Chromecast icon on the player controls.
- This will cause a popup to appear with a list of available devices on your network. Select the device you would like to use.
- The show will then Chromecast to your TV!
Watching through Chromecast
After the show starts on your TV, you will be able to control it using the player controls on your computer, or you can use the TV's remote.
If you want to disconnect from the TV, then you can access the casting controls near the extension's icon and click on "Stop casting".
Prefer not to cast?
If you'd rather use a VidAngel TV app, we got you covered! You can see our compatible TV devices here: How can I watch VidAngel on my TV?
The cast popup is showing captions controls
Why am I seeing a captions menu when I try to cast? No need to worry—that's Chrome, not VidAngel! Chrome's media panel (the popup that appears when you click the cast/media icon in the browser toolbar) now includes a few things in one place:
- Playback controls for whatever's playing in that tab
- A Live Caption toggle—Chrome's built-in auto-captioning feature
- A Cast to a device section where your Chromecast devices will appear
The Live Caption toggle is a Chrome accessibility feature and has nothing to do with VidAngel's subtitles or filters. You can ignore it, or toggle it on if you find it useful—it won't affect your VidAngel experience either way.
TIP: If you don't see any devices listed under Cast to a device, Chrome may not have permission to scan your network for devices. Try going to the Chrome browser menu and selecting Cast, save, and share to re-enable permissions. Make sure your computer and Chromecast device are also on the same Wi-Fi network: Check if TV and mobile are on the same Wi-Fi
